Suddenly It Snowed
Walking home from another disappointment
along the streetlight lit streets, breath misting
occasionally, when, suddenly, it started snowing.
Fat chunks of snow were suddenly flood-lit
in car headlights snow just there, just falling.
And it appeared in shafts where light spilt
from pub windows, from shop windows.
Falling or floating, shifting sideways. White.
Against all other backgrounds, in the dark
nothing showed, but there, in these man-made
shafts of light, that night, suddenly it snowed.
