David Greenslade's
long poem tells the story of an Elizabethan adventurer in Virginia
in the early 17th Century. Designed by Geoff Sawers to look like
a contemporary tract, it features 3 fine woodcut illustrations by
Pete Hay.

Each Broken Object
To
Virginia, where
our host at harboure Capt Foyte
eavesdropping shamelessly at our interest in Plantes
recommendes we walk three nights
to a Tussacarraura tracte inland
Where will we witness how the Forests are cleared
by Fowle and Swine
also how plots around
what fewe indigineouse herbal Plantes
maye spread and flourishe
aided where horse and cow do dung,
likewise the flurry of human waste
Much impressed
although Moffat disgusted
at the brazeness of the settlement's female servantes;
I instruct that he 'put Himselfe in their Condition'
at which he guffoaws as tho it was a joak.
